Director Lillian Zheng will screen her documentary Edelweiss, which tells the story of Tom Hom. Mr. Hom's father immigrated to the United States from China in 1909, and Mr. Hom was born in California in 1927. In 1963 he was the first minority elected to the San Diego City Council, and in 1968 he was the second Asian American elected to the California State Assembly. Mr. Hom worked alongside many high-profile people, including Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, and Martin Luther King Jr. He played a major role in developing downtown San Diego and in transforming a red-light district into a vibrant Gaslamp Quarter. His family owned the Western Metal Supply Company, which was integrated into Petco Park.
This event includes a Q&A session with the director.
